Pulse® SLS Rim
SLS forged model rim made with carbon-graphene.
Pulse SLS rims are rims made with so-called "High modulus" carbon. The "High modulus" quality means that the fiber is made up of 100% carbon atoms, i.e. without nitrogen residue. This type of fiber is also very light and has a high tensile strength. The HTG255 Epoxy resin that we use is patented and designed to make connections with carbon atoms only. Thus, the product offers excellent fiber/resin junctions. More concretely, the rim is stronger for a reduced weight.
The SLS versions undergo an additional heat treatment with a graphitization firing at more than 3000°c. This temperature pushes the carbon atoms to take a crystalline arrangement: graphene. This process offers a tensile and compressive strength of approximately 20%.
The Pulse SLS rims offer a unique design. The first notable development is the use of so-called "semi-hook" tire hooks, meaning that the tire holding hooks have a different shape that allows for a minimum wall thickness of 3mm instead of 1.8mm. This provides greater impact resistance and supports more tire pressure.
The second development is the use of internal spoke nipples. This allows for spoke holes that are almost half as small, and therefore reduces the weak areas of the rim caused by this drilling. The risk of tearing is reduced and the rigidity/stability of the rim is increased.
The third development, the most visible, is the implementation of "honeycomb" structured rim sides. A technology from the road bicycle world, this type of process, in addition to offering an atypical design, offers better resistance to critical constraints of the rim. Beyond the rigidity threshold, the rim is able to deform further before the breaking threshold.
The rim has two distinct heights: 24mm and 25.5mm. This difference is due to the use of orthodromic geometry fibers at each spoke hole. That is to say that the fibers follow a curve where the distance is the shortest between two points. Concretely, we obtain a better capacity for retaining loads from the spokes, while using a minimum of fiber length for a given surface. This technology offers more mechanical stability to the rim despite the use of an anisotropic material that is carbon fiber.
The result is a more compact, stiffer and more resistant rim than all the other models of the brand.
All the rims are handmade, great care is taken in the finish. The gray marking is under anti-UV varnish and is not likely to peel off when washing the bike.
These rims are guaranteed to comply with ISO 4210 standards.
